Fed Slams Google Books
I’d like to get it out on the table at the outset. I’m not a Google hater.
On the contrary, I’m a fan. A huge fan.
Not always. Not blindly. But I can honestly say that Google has changed my life for the better at least several times over. And I believe that Google Books is/will change my life for the better too. But their vision and the many many strings attached are complex.
My “Fed Slams Google Books” curated story is ample evidence of that, and I’m guessing it’ll become a lot more complex before all the details are worked out. Here’s to moving forward!
On March 22 Federal Judge Denny Chin ruled that Google’s $125 million deal to digitally publish millions of out-of-copyright books would permit Google to bypass copyright owners and exploit their books for profit. The reaction has been mixed, loud and widespread. Where do you stand?
